Terms and Conditions

Thank you for choosing to book with the Trevelyan Guest House, we hope you will enjoy your stay. The following terms and conditions apply to your booking. They form the terms of a legally binding contract between us and you.

To place a booking with us the lead guest must be at least 16 years of age.

Where the person making the booking is different to the lead guest taking up the occupation, the person making the booking may be held responsible for cancellation, non-arrival and damages as set-out within. Only the lead guest and the named booking party are allowed to use the property and its facilities, any third party visitors are only allowed access at our express permission.

The lead guest accepts responsibility for all guests included as part of their booking.

Number of Guests

The maximum number of staying guests per room is illustrated in the room occupancy details on the website. You may not bring additional people into the guest rooms.

Price and Payment

Payment is expected on arrival for the full length of your stay. For stays of a week more more, we reserve the right to request a deposit.

We accept payment in cash, debit card, or credit card (including American Express).

The prices are based on the type of room and the number of guests staying in the room.

Cancellation by You

If you cancel at least two days before the date of your check-in then cancellation is free and any deposit paid in advance will be refunded. For cancellations after this period, no refund is available and the full price of the booking must be paid.

Non-arrival guests, who are unable to attend or fail to attend for whatever reason, forfeit their deposit paid and the full amount of the booking will be due. It is suggested that booking guests take out appropriate holiday/cancellation insurance where required.

We reserve the right to charge for unused nights in the event of an early departure.

Cancellation by Us

In the unlikely event that we are forced to cancel your booking, due to circumstances beyond our control, we will attempt to offer you alternative accommodation. If suitable accommodation is not available (or unacceptable to you) then we will refund all monies already paid by you and confirm that you will not be liable for any further payments to us. In any circumstances where you are entitled to compensation, the limit of our liability to you arising from our breach of contract will be up to a maximum of the original cost of your booking.

Arrival and Departure

Our standard check-in time is between 4pm and 9pm. Please contact us (text, email, or phone) in advance to advise of an estimated time of arrival, as our reception is not continually manned.

By prior mutual agreement, an early check-in is possible. This service is free for guests who book direct. Guests who book via an online travel agent will be subject to an additional charge for this service (£10 for an early check-in between 12 noon and 4pm; £20 for an early check-in between 10am and 12 noon).

By prior mutual agreement, a late check-in is possible. This is subject to an additional charge (£10 up to 10pm; £20 up to 11pm; £30 up to midnight).

If prior arrangements have not been made, and you do not arrive by 9pm, we are entitled to treat it as a “no-show”. Your booking will be cancelled and we have the right to re-let the room.

We request that you vacate your room no later than 10am on the day of departure.


A complementary breakfast is included for guests paying full price, or by prior agreement if a discount has been agreed.

While we make every effort to cater for special diets at short notice, this is not always possible. Guests who have dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten free, vegetarian) should notify us at least two days before the date of check-in.

Room Servicing and Food in Rooms

A member of staff will knock and enter each guest room daily. This will normally take place in the mornings after breakfast. This is to clean the room, remove any rubbish, and resupply the tea/coffee trays. Even if the guest requests that the room not be serviced, we reserve the right to conduct a visual inspection to ensure the room has not been damaged.

Please note that as the guest rooms do not have fridges available, we are unable to provide fresh milk in guest rooms.

Guests are free to order food to be delivered to their rooms. In such cases, they should request that the deliver phone them on arrival; we are not normally able to identify which room ordered a particular food delivery.

Guests who wish to eat in their rooms should use the desk and chairs provided. In particular, they should take care to avoid getting food on bedding and soft furnishings, as food may cause permanent stains that would have to be charged as damages.

Guests are requested not to use recording equipment on our staff while performing their duties.

WiFi Fair & Appropriate Usage Policy

Where WiFi Internet access is provided, guests accept to use this access to the Internet fairly and appropriately. We may monitor network performance and user usage in order to maintain a fair and high level of service to all our guests.

The Internet access provided is intended for general use such as access to the world wide web, email, messaging, social media, light video/music/media streaming. It is not intended or ideally suited for heavy media streaming, online gaming, or extensive downloads/uploads. Access to illegal activity or use of our network for illegal activity is prohibited, and may be reported to local authorities.

Lost Property

Any lost property, if discovered and found, left behind by guests during a stay will be held for a period of one month. While we will make our best efforts to reunite lost property with their owners, we accept no responsibility in replacing lost items, and encourage guests to ensure they have all their belonging before checking-out. We may offer to post lost items via recorded delivery at the cost of the property owner, otherwise collection can be arranged.

Damage and Breakage

We reserve the right to charge the lead guest for any damages caused through the course of a booking by any member of the booking party. This includes breakages, spillages, stains, damage to furniture or fixtures and fittings. Any accidental damages should be reported as soon as possible in order to minimise damage and associated costs. Lost keys/fobs/access cards will incur a replacement charge per key/fob/card lost.

Smoking Policy

We are a No Smoking establishment. If we find that guests have been smoking in the room, or anywhere on the premises, then we reserve the right to ask you to leave immediately. You will remain liable for the whole of the cost of your stay. Whether or not you are asked to leave, we also reserve the right to charge a sum equivalent to one night's stay if we are unable to re-let the room for 24 hours whilst it is fully aired. In agreeing to our terms and conditions, you authorise us to charge this amount to the debit/credit card used to secure the booking.

The designated smoking area is outside the building, either on the memorial bench or the flat patio at the bottom of the stairs. Smoking while on the steps or in the doorway area is not allowed.

If evidence of smoking is discovered after you depart, you will be notified of any charges in writing as soon as is reasonably practicable, to be settled by return of post.


Sorry, we do not accept pets.

Our Liability

We do not accept any liability for damage to your property or injury to you (or other members of your party) whilst on our premises unless caused by the negligence of us, or our employees. Cars left in our car park are parked at your own risk. The Trevelyan Guest House is not responsible for the content of external Internet sites.

Use of Personal Data

Any data collected as a result of your booking will be stored in accordance with the provisions of current Data Protection legislation.

You consent to the Trevelyan Guest House, or authorised agents thereof, using personal information on in relation to your use of accommodation services.

You accept that any entries you make to an on-site guest book, if available, will not contain personal information or details you would not want disclosed. Any entries containing personal details that may fall into the DPA and GDPR may be removed and destroyed.


Any dispute between us will be governed by the non-exclusive law of the English Courts.
